YMCA Improves Carbon Footprint by Upgrading its Facilities to Full LED Lighting
The YMCA of Greater Nashua is pleased to announce that it has taken a large step in improving its carbon footprint by upgrading and converting the Y’s three facility branches to full LED lighting.
With a $50,000 grant from a donor through the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, the Y was able to make upgrades to the Nashua YMCA, the Merrimack YMCA and the new Westwood Park YMCA. The project cost to the YMCA after rebates and incentives was $190,000 ($140,000 after the grant.) This gift allowed the Y include the new Westwood Park YMCA in this capital project. In 24 months, this project will pay for itself in cost savings.
The light-emitting diode (LED) is one of today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly developing lighting technologies. Quality LED light bulbs last longer, are more durable, and offer comparable or better light quality than other types of lighting.
LED is a highly energy efficient lighting technology and has the potential to fundamentally change the future of lighting in the United States. Residential LEDs — especially ENERGY STAR rated products — use at least 75% less energy, and last 25 times longer, than incandescent lighting.
