Honoring Everyday Heroes Who Keep Our Waters Safe
On July 31, the YMCA of Greater Nashua proudly celebrates International Lifeguard Appreciation Day, recognizing the trained professionals who work tirelessly to ensure safety in and around the water every single day.
From pools to lakes, swim lessons to summer camps, lifeguards are frontline protectors who make recreation possible—and safe—for thousands of local residents each year.
“Lifeguards are more than whistle-blowers—they’re lifesavers, mentors, and role models,” said Joe Manzoli, Chief Operating Officer at YMCA of Greater Nashua. “They help prevent tragedies before they happen, and they do it with focus, skill, and compassion.”
At the YMCA of Greater Nashua, lifeguards support programs across multiple branches and summer camps, including:
- • Swim lessons for all ages, with a focus on water safety and drowning prevention;
- • Open swim and aquatic fitness classes that promote healthy lifestyles;
- • YMCA Camp Sargent lakefront supervision, where campers enjoy swimming, boating, and water play.

And their presence gives parents peace of mind and allows children to build confidence, independence, and joy around water—critical life skills that last a lifetime.
“Our lifeguards are highly trained and incredibly dedicated,” added Manzoli. “They show up early, stay alert, and help create a welcoming and safe environment for all.”
