POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist and facilitate engaging and educational activities for children ages 5-12, help with homework and parent communication. The candidate must have excellent relationship building abilities and be able to thrive in active environments.
SCHEDULE/HOURS OF OPERATION:
- Monday-Friday 2:00pm-6:00pm (must be able to work Y Academy hours)
- Early Release Days (once per month) 11:30am – 6:00pm
- Must be able to work within that timeframe
- Location: Westwood Park YMCA
- Clark Wilkins School, Amherst school district (December, February & April)
- The program is open vacation weeks and non-school days 7:00am-6:00pm
- MUST be available to work any 8 hours within that time frame each day
- Location for vacation/no-school days: Westwood Park YMCA
- Amherst School district snow days
- The program is open 7:00am-6:00pm (opening varies depending on storm)
- MUST work any 8 hours within that time frame
- Location for snow days: Westwood Park YMCA
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with children ages 5-12 years old preferred.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills required.
- Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old.
- Must be able to relate well to parents and children.
- Must be able to communicate clearly.
- Must enjoy working with children.
- Must have a caring and nurturing demeanor.
- Must be able to supervise up to 15 children at any given time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Staff members will actively participate in current and new Y initiatives.
- By personal example, help to instill the core Y values (honesty, responsibility, caring and respect) in the children, staff and parents involved in the program.
- Must be a positive role model.
- Promote positively by being a team player, fair competitor and role model.
- Follow handbook policies and procedures to ensure safety of the children.
- Report any suspected abuse to Site Director immediately.
- Actively participate in games and activities to keep children engaged and in high spirits.
- Provide homework help daily.
- Follow a set daily schedule.
- Promote leadership through games and speech within the Y Academy
- Follow YAcademy protocol for correcting unwanted behavior.
- Communicate with parents daily about kids involved in the Y Academy Perform other duties as requested by the Y Academy Site Director, and/or Executive Director of Education
- Proactively seek professional development opportunities through educational resources and other resources to promote professional growth.
- Design and Implement weekly “club” activities throughout the course of the Y Academy year that will enhance the overall experience of our members.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- Play times will often be held outside (including winter months)
Required Training/Certifications:
- Child Abuse Prevention
- First Aid/CPR Certified (child)
- Physical/health exam dated within two years of last day of school
- Receipt of fingerprint by any law enforcement agency (18 or older)
