On Wednesday, June 18, a group of LiveSTRONG at the YMCA Alumni came together at the Nashua YMCA for lunch in the Wellbeing Center and walk through Mine Falls Park together. They spent that afternoon supporting each other through combined strength, community and shared experiences.
YMCA Celebrates Cancer Survivor Month by Honoring Local Survivors and the Impact of Its LiveSTRONG® at the YMCA Program
June is National Cancer Survivor Month, a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and journey of cancer survivors across the country. The YMCA of Greater Nashua proudly joins the celebration by honoring the courageous individuals in our community and spotlighting the powerful role of its LiveSTRONG® at the YMCA program in helping survivors reclaim their health and well-being.
The LiveSTRONG program is a 12-week, research-based physical activity and well-being initiative designed specifically for adult cancer survivors. Offered at no cost to participants, the program helps survivors regain their strength, balance, flexibility, and confidence through customized group fitness sessions and the support of certified YMCA wellness coaches.
Since launching the program in 2016, the YMCA of Greater Nashua has supported more than 500 cancer survivors on their journey to recovery. Participants not only rebuild physical strength but also find community and emotional support among others who understand what they’ve experienced.
“LiveSTRONG is more than just an exercise program—it’s a lifeline for survivors navigating life after treatment,” said Eirikur Holt, Director of Healthy Living at the YMCA of Greater Nashua. “It embodies the Y’s commitment to supporting the whole person—spirit, mind, and body—through every stage of life. This Cancer Survivor Month, we celebrate the incredible strength of our participants and the powerful community that surrounds them.”
The YMCA will honor Cancer Survivor Month throughout June with social media spotlights, survivor testimonials, a program Alumni Luncheon and hike through Mines Falls Park, and community education events aimed at raising awareness about the LiveSTRONG at the YMCA program and the lasting impact it has on survivors and their families.
Cancer survivors interested in participating in the LiveSTRONG at the YMCA program are encouraged to contact the YMCA of Greater Nashua to learn more or to register.
