TONY FERRIERO: JOY FROM DAY ONE AT THE YMCA

15-year-old Tony Ferriero has been a Y kid since learning to swim at the Y when he was very young. “He practically learned to swim, before he learned to walk!,” his Dad Bill Ferriero noted. Tony has done nearly every Y program: Lego Club, basketball, soccer, day camp, and floor hockey, to name a few. His favorite was the Y’s Quest Camp for teens, his first leadership development program at the Y.

Tony’s current passion is YMCA Teen Leaders Club where he shares that he has met a lot of friends that he wouldn’t have met through school. He enjoys the community service projects, especially when the teens helped with Rotary Club of Nashua’s Christmas tree lot, writing letters during the holidays to our military service people, and the gift collection drive benefiting children. He has attended Leaders School at Springfield College and regional Leaders Club rallies that bring together Y youth from New England and New York. “It’s been an opportunity for me to mature and be comfortable speaking in front of groups. I’ve learned to be a leader and have taken on more responsibilities,” Tony shared.

The YMCA Teen Leaders Club
Leaders Club (Grades 6-12) is a YMCA of the USA national program that provides club members with many opportunities for leadership training, personal growth, service to others and social development. By connecting with adult advisors, teens have role models and mentors who can have a positive impact on their lives. Participants meet on a weekly basis in a structured and safe environment. Activities include: service-learning projects, volunteer and fundraising events, academic support, field trips and weekend regional rallies throughout the school year.

The Leaders program meets every Monday from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Nashua YMCA. Those interested in joining the Leaders program can reach out to Larry Harding at lharding@nmymca.org to inquire further.
