TIM SAGEAR: HE TRAVELS NEARLY AN HOUR ROUND-TRIP TO VISIT THE Y; HIS GENEROSITY ALLOWS OTHERS ACCESS AS WELL
“I smile going to the Y and I smile coming back from the Y,” said Tim Sagear. Tim joined the Y in 2014 when another racquetball facility in the area closed. He has a 25 minute drive from his home in Brookline and can’t think of another place he would rather enjoy racquet ball and work out.
Many of his fellow racquetball players that also moved to the Y found a new sense of community here. “It’s very friendly and very homey at the Y. I enjoy playing racquetball at the Merrimack YMCA and seeing the kids walk by in a line with their teachers. We (racquetball players) high five them and give them old racquetballs when they walk by.” He shares that it’s a highlight of his time at the Y and there are smiles all around.
“It’s just really friendly and very nice here. All of my interactions with members and staff have been great,” he said. He is comfortable at the Y. Prior to the pandemic, he was here 4-5 days a week. “The Y has done a great job communicating safety precautions and I see cleaning in action. I feel very safe here. I’m starting to get back here more often now.”
When Tim changed his membership from a YMCA Senior Membership to being covered through his health plan’s Silver Sneakers (now Renew) program, he made the decision to donate back his membership dues to the Y in support of the annual campaign. He’s been a donor since he joined, but this way, he shares, is easy! “I was paying this to the Y already, so now converting it to a donation feels great. Then, making the YMCA of Greater Nashua my Amazon Smile recipient adds a little bit more. It’s all going to help local folks. This is a good, safe place and so worthy of donations.”
