Local Olympians Tessa Gobbo and Alex Karworski Will Discuss Their Y Journey at the Gala

The YMCA of Greater Nashua is pleased to announce its ‘Champions of Change’ Gala, to be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at LaBelle Winery in Amherst. Guest speakers will be 2016 Olympians Tessa Gobbo of Chesterfield, NH,  (gold medal winner in Women’s Rowing) and Alex Karworski  (Nashua native, who grew up in Hollis), who represented the U.S. on the Men’s Rowing team.

Background on Tessa Gobbo:
Tessa Gobbo was born in Keene New Hampshire and grew up Chesterfield New Hampshire. She went to high school at Northfield Mount Hermon School after graduating from Chesterfield Elementary School. Northfield Mount Hermon was where Tessa began her rowing career and fell in love in the sport. After High School she went to Brown University and continued her rowing career winning the NCAA team trophy with her team in 2011. Tessa joined the National Rowing Team’s right after graduation. Tessa started in development boats until she made her way into the women’s 8+. In her time at the training center she won two World Championships and received second in another. The pinnacle of her Rowing career was winning the 2016 Olympics this past summer in the women’s 8+.

Background on Alex Karwoski:
United States national team member and Olympian Alex Karwoski is also  the Men’s Rowing, Assistant Coach at Cornell University. Karwoski, fresh off a fourth place finish with the United States men’s eight at the 2016 Rio Olympics, has spent the last four years training with the US national team with strong showings at numerous World Championships and World Rowing Cups.  In 2016 he won bronze in the men’s eight at the World Rowing Cup II.A 2012 graduate of Cornell, Karwoski majored in Civil and Environmental Engineering. While rowing for the Big Red, he was a two year member of the varsity eight, and finished with a silver medal at the Eastern Sprints in the second varsity eight his sophomore season. Karwoski also was the recipient of the “Big Stick” award in 2012 as well as a two time member of the Friedman Strength and Conditioning “Wall of Strength” honor. Originally from New Hampshire, Alex was a member of the YMA of Greater Nashua as a child.

Gala Details:
A limited number of  tickets are still available for this event for $125 per person, which includes a complimentary cocktail hour, plated dinner and tastings of up to 5 of LaBelle Winery’s wines. Tables of 10 can be reserved for $1250. Tickets can be purchased on the Y’s website or by calling the YMCA Development Office at 603.598.1533.
