2021: A Year in Review
Bringing Our Community Together for Good
This year we celebrate 134 years of service to the Greater Nashua community.
At the heart of the Y lies the power to transform— both change for individuals and changing the world around us. From our wide range of wellness, personal training, sports and aquatics programs, to our group social activities, as well as fun family and community events, we offer an array of options focused on strengthening spirit, mind and bodies. This has served us well during these trying times. During the pandemic, individuals have had more time for self-reflection and many have made decisions to be more intentional in self-care. Additionally, our community has had to transform in many ways. It has not been business as usual and our Y has risen to the occasion and responded to be an agent of change.
Some highlights from the past year:
-
While local schools were closed, as well as many child care centers in our region, our Early Education Center safely served more than 300 children on a daily basis. These enrollment numbers are similar to our pre-pandemic numbers.
-
Our partnership with Walgreens allowed us to fully vaccinate 281 staff onsite at our Merrimack Branch. This provided many of our staff with a reassurance and lower stress levels while working directly with some vulnerable populations.
-
Many of our programs were below 50% of normal enrollment levels throughout the year, but we still continued to teach many children to swim. We provided 5,100 swim lessons this past year to 1625 individuals.
-
Our camp programs were some of the first opportunities for many children to be around other children in public. Some of the children we served had not been around non-family members in more than a year. Our summer camps served the largest number of kids in history of our organization this summer.
-
Many schools closed this past school year and no outside programs were permitted in the buildings to provide services. This past summer we were the first allowed back in and worked under some significant and restrictive guidelines. The Y ran the Y Power Scholars Academy (PSA) in three schools. PSA is the Nashua Public School summer school program, run by our YMCA. We had 300 students in grades 1 – 9 participate in this important summer learning loss prevention program.
We continue to have a focus on recapturing our past members and getting our members more engaged at the Y. We have worked very hard to make sure our facilities are clean and safe, but we also understand that it may be a while for some of our past members to return. Though the world may be unpredictable, one thing remains certain – the Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families, and communities.
We invite you to this year’s exciting accomplishments toward building a better, stronger community.
