Summer Camp Builds Confidence with Counselor Encouragement

SUMMER CAMP BUILDS CONFIDENCE WITH COUNSELOR ENCOURAGEMENT

Kristin Barsorian has enjoyed watching her 11-year-old daughter Eliza thrive in YMCA Camp Create each summer. “Eliza loves to be creative. She fell in love with Camp Create. The environment and counselors make her feel comfortable. She was a narrator in her first play at the Y and later was the lead as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. In school plays, she did not want to be on stage, she wanted to do backstage set work.  At Camp Create she felt so much more comfortable, and can be herself.”

“She has flourished in camp over the last three years. The counselors are top notch and have given her so much encouragement! Each year when she returns, all of the counselors remember her name and make her feel so welcome. She is grinning from ear to ear when they recognize her. Because of their encouragement, she was given the lead part in the Wizard of Oz as Dorothy. During the school year, she was too shy and timid to participate as an actor in the school play, but here at Camp Create she shines! I want to send a sincere thank you to all of the counselors who brighten each and every summer day to make her feel welcome and part of a ‘family’ at her camp. Thank you so much.”

Kristin noted that Eliza has been excited during the winter months to get back to Camp Create each summer.

The Barsorians have been a part of our YMCA for five years. Eliza has taken swimming lessons, gone to Camp Sargent, and of course, her favorite, Camp Create. We love seeing our campers find their inner passion. We are so glad you are a part of the YMCA, Eliza and Kristin!
