LYNNE BOYER: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
What jobs have you held at the YMCA? I began as a camp counselor during the summer of 1998, then went on to work in preschool, School’s Out and then taught dance part time in Merrimack for a few years. In 2003 I became the Arts and Humanities Director and in 2016 the Director of Community Impact and Social Responsibility.
What’s your favorite grade in school and why? I loved college—I studied theater so to be able to do what I loved every day was so much fun.
Where can we find you when you’re not at the Y? Spending time with my husband Brian and our three boys. My twins are very sporty and active so we’re always running them to different activities, but my youngest is more like me and into the arts. Everyone in our family loves a good theme park so you’ll typically find us vacationing at one.
What’s your favorite sport to play? Favorite spectator sport? I’m not really into playing sports but have been a dancer most of my life. My older boys play baseball, flag football and basketball so I’m usually a spectator at their games.
What’s your favorite Y memory? Oh there’s so many! The Y has made a huge impact on my life and given me my purpose. I went to college to be a performer but was so lucky to land at the Y where I was given the opportunity to give back to the community through my talents. I’m so grateful for all the wonderful experiences and people I’ve met…..BUT if I had to pick one memory I would have to say my favorite was meeting my husband on the basketball court and Camp Sargent.
Do you have a hobby? If yes, what is it? I’m really into photography as a creative outlet. And I love to sew, it’s truly a lost art.
What’s your favorite holiday and why? I love any holiday where I get to spend time with my family; Christmas is really magical when you’re a parent, but one of my favorites is Labor Day…..weird, right? I love Labor Day because it’s the last hurrah of summer where you can look back on those memories but gear up for a new fresh start with the beginning of school. My husband and I got married Labor Day weekend and the years before that we spent the holiday at Jimmy Buffett concerts, so Labor Day weekend definitely holds some memories for me.
If you could live anywhere, where would that be? I really enjoy traveling all over and have been to many countries as well as U.S. cities, but London is my favorite city, I love the vibe. I wouldn’t mind retiring in Aruba though, and they have a Y there!
