Position Summary

The housekeeping porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the early childhood center and assigned YMCA spaces. This position supports the YMCA’s mission by ensuring that members, children, families, and staff experience a facility that reflects our commitment to health, safety, and belonging.

This is a first-shift position (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).

Qualifications

  • Positive, solution-oriented attitude and commitment to teamwork
  • Experience with commercial cleaning or facility maintenance preferred
  • Ability to follow cleaning procedures and safety guidelines
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, and manuals
  • Ability to report maintenance needs or safety concerns promptly
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, tools, and equipment
  • Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals and safe usage
  • Ability to lift, move, or transport equipment and supplies with or without reasonable accommodation

Essential Functions

Facility cleanliness and maintenance

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas including classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, common spaces, and fitness areas
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, window cleaning, and trash removal
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces and equipment multiple times per day
  • Maintain and restock paper products, soap dispensers, and sanitation supplies
  • Ensure hand sanitizer stations remain stocked and operational

Facility support

  • Assist with facility setup for events or activities as needed
  • Support seasonal facility needs including snow removal or grounds support when required
  • Identify and report facility maintenance issues promptly
  • Follow YMCA safety and security procedures and report hazards or incidents immediately

Member and guest experience

  • Help maintain a welcoming environment for all members, guests, children, and staff
  • Respond promptly and courteously to requests from members or coworkers
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with others to support a positive team environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support facility operations and member experience

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, crouch, and kneel for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to use ladders and platforms up to 30 feet when necessary
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and motorized equipment
  • Ability to work with cleaning compounds and chemicals safely
  • Ability to work in environments that may include dust, dirt, and cleaning solutions
