POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health & Wellness Team Leader supports the mission of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Reporting to the Director of Wellness, this role provides inspiration to members, leads wellness initiatives in our Merrimack Branch, and helps improve the overall health of our community.  A strong emphasis is placed on creating an exceptional member experience, building meaningful connections, and driving member engagement that leads to long-term satisfaction and retention. This position also serves as a role model for staff, setting the standard for high-quality service and care for all.

Evening and weekend availability required.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Exercise Science or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid and Adult CPR/AED certification.
  • Nationally recognized Personal Training certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM)
  • 2+ years of training required
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and build positive relationships with staff, members, and volunteers.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create a safe, welcoming environment where all individuals feel respected and supported.
  • Build strong member relationships that inspire engagement and positive health outcomes.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and schedule wellness staff; ensure proper shift coverage.
  • Provide direct service (personal training, small group training for 25–30 hours weekly.
  • Maintain Smart Start appointments and ensure member onboarding processes are completed.
  • Perform daily facility and equipment checks; oversee cleaning, preventative maintenance, and repair coordination.
  • Track, process, and approve payroll for wellness staff.
  • Lead with a specialty focus area to enhance direct service and staff development.
  • Stay informed on wellness trends to provide effective member support.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Supports member experience and team success through additional responsibilities as needed
