POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Aquatics Team Lead – Safety, you will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the day-to-day operation of the aquatic programs.  You will assist with maintaining records, scheduling staff, and ensuring proper pool maintenance.  The Aquatics Team Lead – Safety performs evaluations of Lifeguards, assists with planning and implementing quarterly in-service, and supervises Lifeguards, instructors, volunteers, and other team members as assigned and acts as a liaison between the Aquatics Director and aquatics staff. You will teach swim lessons as scheduled or needed.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as point of contact when the Aquatics Director is not available.
  • Assists with administration of the swim lessons, which includes registration, evaluations, assisting with waitlists, contacting swim lesson participants, running rosters, and ensuring completion of progress trackers and certificates of achievement each month.
  • Assists in scheduling Lifeguards to ensure proper ratios and shift coverage.
  • Direct service of lifeguard or swim instructing for at least 35-40 hours a week.
  • Help the aquatics directors with onboarding of new lifeguards and swim instructors.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to aquatic staff team to ensure highest quality results.
  • Assist swim instructors to ensure classes begin and end on time, attendance is recorded and skills are assessed and level slips/progress reports are distributed.
  • Assist the aquatics director in the inputting of swim lessons, lap lane reservations, and incident reports.
  • Helps to plan and facilitate staff trainings at in-services.
  • Ensure daily pool maintenance and cleaning responsibilities are accomplished and accurately recorded including but not limited to bather load, chemical reading logs, opening/closing procedures, cleaning checklists.
  • Assist with changes to aquatic policies and procedures as deemed appropriate by the Aquatics Director.
  • Other duties as assigned by Aquatics Directors.
  • Supports the YMCA’s mission and operations as needed.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard certification.
  • Proficient in swimming and safety skills.
  • Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aide effectively.
  • Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200lb person.
  • Physically able to see, hear, and communicate clearly.
  • Able to read, write, and perform basic math to complete daily chemical logs
  • Possess strong organizational, budgetary, computer and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations.
