Merrimack, nh, August 5, 2008: The YMCA of Greater Nashua has hired Jake Batchelder, a PlusTime NH AmeriCorps*VISTA member, as their new Volunteer Coordinator. Jake will take on the new role of Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator to help inform the public about the programs and services available to them locally through the YMCA. The YMCA of Greater Nashua works to instill values and provide opportunities for lifelong personal growth and the development of a healthy, spirit, mind, and body for all.
PlusTime NH is a non-profit organization that supports the development and sustainability of quality after school programs. PlusTime NH sponsored AmeriCorps*VISTA members serve full-time for one year in areas that have underserved and/or impoverished youth. The YMCA of Greater Nashua applied for and was granted this opportunity to host an AmeriCorps*VISTA in the role of Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator. Jake is one of several AmeriCorps*VISTA's serving communities throughout New Hampshire. AmeriCorps*VISTA is a national service program commonly referred to as the "Domestic Peace Corps".
"In his role as an AmeriCorps*VISTA, Jake will be playing a crucial role in our organization by engaging more volunteers with the YMCA of Greater Nashua and reaching out to let the community know about the abundance of programs and services available through the YMCA", said Marsha Bottino, the YMCA's Associate Development Director and a former AmeriCorps*VISTA who performed a year of service with a Massachusetts based non-profit in 2001-2002.
